বৈদ্যুৎতিক ঘন্টা হল তড়িৎ চুম্বক ব্যবহারকারী একটি সরল যন্ত্র। এর বিভিন্ন অংশ যথাযথভাবে সংযুক্ত করে সুইচ চালু করলে তড়িৎ প্রবাহিত হয়। তড়িৎ চুম্বকটি নরম লোহার পাতকে আকর্ষণ করে ফলে হাতুড়িটি ঘন্টায় এসে আঘাত করে এবং শব্দের সৃষ্টি হয় ফলে স্প্রিংসহ হাতুড়িটি স্পর্শ স্ক্রু থেকে সরে আসে। বর্তনী বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে তড়িৎ প্রবাহ বন্ধ হয় ফলে তড়িৎ চুম্বক আর চুম্বক থাকেনা এবং এর আকর্ষণ শক্তিও থাকে না। হাতুড়িটি তার নিজের অবস্থানে ফিরে যায় এবং স্পর্শ-স্ক্রুকে স্পর্শ করে। এতে পুনরায় বিদ্যুৎ প্রবাহিত হয় এবং হাতড়িটিকে আকর্ষণ করে। হাতুড়িটি ঘন্টাকে আঘাত করে এবং শব্দের সৃষ্টি করে। 

The electric bell is a simple device that uses electromagnets. When the various parts of it are properly connected and the switch is turned on, electricity flows. The electromagnet attracts the soft iron plate so that the hammer hits the bell and makes a noise. As a result the hammer along with the spring moves away from the touch, the circuit is disconnected and the flow of electricity is stopped. The hammer returns to its own position and touches the touch-screw. The electricity flows again and attracts the hammer. The hammer strikes the bell and makes noise
