একটি ছবিকে বিভিন্নভাবে সাজিয়ে বিভিন্নরূপে দেখানোকে বহুরূপী বলা হয়।

প্রদর্শনীবস্ত্তটির গোল জানালাটি দিয়ে ভিতরের ফ্রেমে বাঁধানো ময়ূরের ছবিটির দিকে তাকিয়ে নবটি ঘোরাতে থাকলে দেখা যাবে ছবিটির রং ক্রমশ কি রকম বদলে যাচ্ছে।

কারণ:   ফ্রেমের ছবিটি স্বচ্ছ এডহেসিভ টেপ-এর ছোট ছোট টুকরো দিয়ে তৈরি করা হয়েছে। টেপ -এ টুকরোগুলির মধ্য দিয়ে যাওয়ার সময় সাদা আলোর উপাংশ বিভিন্ন রংয়ের আলোর ধ্রুবনতল (Polarization Plane) ভিন্ন মাত্রায় আবর্তিত হয়ে যায়। সামনের ধ্রুবনী ঝিল্লিটি ঘুরাতে থাকলে এটি বিশেষ কৌণিক অবস্থানে বিশেষ কিছু রংয়ের আলো বের হয়ে আসতে থাকে। যখন যে যে রংয়ের আলো বের হয়ে আসে ছবিটিও সেই সেই রংয়ের দেখতে পাওয়া যায়।

Look through the window and slowly rotate the knob. Observe   change of   colours in the framed   portrait in side.

The portrait   is   made of pieces of   transparent adhesive tape and is     placed   between   two   polarising films. The pieces   of  tape  rotate the  planes  of    polarisation  of constituent  colours  of  light  passing  throng   it  to different  degrees .  The front polarising film, when rotated   allows light of particular

colours  to  come  through it  and  as  a  result   we  see  changing  colours.
