প্রদর্শনীবস্তুটির সিটে বসে ইয়ারপিচ দুটিকে দুই কানে ধরে সাথীকে পিছনে দাঁড়িয়ে প্লাস্টিকের বিভিন্ন অংশে হাতুড়ি দিয়ে আঘাত করলে আপনি বলতে পারবেন শব্দ কোন দিক দিয়ে আসছে। প্রতিবার আপনি শব্দের উৎস স্থান আন্দাজ করতে পারবেন।

কারণ : হাতুড়ির আঘাত পাইপের মধ্য বিন্দুর ডানদিক বা বাদিক যে দিকেই করা হউক সেদিকে কানে শব্দটা আগে পৌঁছছে। ফলে মস্তিস্ক দুই কান থেকে একটু আগে ও পরে দুটি আলাদা সংকেত পাচ্ছে। এই দুই সংকেত বিশ্লেষণ করে মস্তিস্কে শব্দের উৎপত্তি স্থল নির্ণয় করতে পারা যায়।

Take your   seat and hole in earpieces on your ears.  Now ask your friend to stand at the back and gently tap with his fingers on the tube at different places. Listen   to the sound carefully and try to locate the source of the sound. You should be able to tell whether it is to your right or to your left. Now remove one earpiece and close   that ear. Can you now locate the source of the sound?  When   the tube is struck  to  the left  or  right  of the  centre  point  the generated  sound  reaches  the nearer ear  first.  Your    brain  receives  the   responses from  your  two  ears  at  two different  times  and   makes  out  the location  of the sound . When you   hear   with  only  ear , the brain  receives   only  one   signal  and  fails to  pinpoint    the  source  of  sound .
